Growing up in the Arizona in the 70's, our parents would drive us to this tiny empty beach town. Las Conchas had a few converted trailers to stay in. Most of the beachfront was empty. There was a few hotels in town and a couple of restaurants. Shrimping was king. Sandy Beach was empty and Cholla Bay was out in the middle of nowhere. So much has changed since that time, of course. And 9-11 combined with the Arizona real estate boom has fuled the transformation of Rocky Point. People can get in thier cars and drive 4 hours to the beach, without dealing with air travel. Home equity has turned into a huge demand for building, owning and buying in Mexico. And the Mexican Government is pouring millions of dollars into transforming Penasco into a top rated resort destination. After all, it is only 1 hour from the Arizona border.
