Frequently Asked Questions about Rocky Point Mexico
How do I get to Rocky Point?
Coming from Phoenix or Tucson: Head south on Highway 85 through Ajo to the border at Lukeville. At the border there is a traffic signal, if it turns red you need to pull aside for inspection. A green means you're all clear. From the border head down the road until you reach a "Y" where you will veer left on Highway 2 for a short bit before making a right on Highway 8. You will see lots of signs in Sonoyta for Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point). You will follow Highway 8 all the way to Rocky Point. If you are staying at the Sandy Beach Resorts, there is a paved road before town (just after Hacienda Furniture) to the resorts. For other parts of town continue straight.
Can I drink the water?
Expats living in Rocky Point swear that you can indeed drink the water; however we have gotten sick. So our rule, is better safe than sorry. Drink bottled water and be very careful with fresh vegetables and fruits. If you can peel it, you can eat it.
Which is the best condo development?
That entirely depends on what you are looking for. Princesa is great for families with its wide open layout and large children's pools.
Sonoran Spa has a restaurant and full-service day spa (La Spa) on its grounds.
Sonoran Sea has a fun, upscale environment and a beachfront pool with a swim up bar.
Sonoran Sun is a great mix with an attached children's pool, plenty of shallow shelves in its pool, a swim up bar and a restaurant.
Bella Sirena is quieter and very upscale with high-end amenities.
Those properties are all out on Sandy Beach away from town. If you are looking for something closer to the action, you might try Marina Pinacate, which are on Calle 13 next to Plaza Las Glorias.
